A Final Project of Writing III course
When I decided to involve in extracurricular activities by being a member of Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa (UKM) Pers Mahasiswa Visi, I did have no reasons for getting such kind of advantageous and disadvantageous things. Firstly, I felt that my spare times are reduced by the activities and I also felt so tired of those. However, I also feel that some reasons emerge to cause me stay in following the activities. Despite of the tiredness of the activities, I’ve found three advantageous things when actively involved in extracurricular activities, especially UKM.
The first advantage is that I can satisfy my interest and develop my ability. Those are basically my reasons to attend the extracurricular activities. I think that UKM is the only association in Undiksha which accommodates the student’s interest and ability. From the programs planned by UKM management, I can exercise my ability and hopefully improve my skill. For example, Pelatihan Dasar Jurnalistik is one of the UKM Visi’s programs that can help me to learn journalistic, as my interest, and improve my ability in writing.
As the members of UKM come from many different departments, I get a chance to have many friends outside my department. I can learn how to make a good friendship with other friends who mainly come from other department. It is advantageous since I can ask for a various helps from a various people. For example, I can ask for help from my friends coming from Technology Department (who also a member of UKM Visi) when I have a trouble in my laptop or computer.
The other advantage is to get certificates which can be used to be one of the requirements for scholarship proposal. As we know that one of the requirements for being agreed in getting scholarship is the numbers of certificates you have. When you have more numbers of certificates, it means that you have more changes to get the scholarship. The numbers of certificates that you have may also indicate that you are an active student, so that you are proper to get the scholarship.
Though unseen, I feel that my soft skills are improving. Yes, truly I admit that I feel my soft skills are improving significantly. I used not to be able to work in team well because I know that I am an egoist person. However, now I feel that I can work in team well, solve the team problem together, and give a significant contribution to the team. I also used to be stressful quickly when I got many problems. However, now I can be a bit less stressful when I get many problems. So, working together and be strongly defends in a bad situation when I get so many problems are the examples that prove my soft skills are improving.
Thus, involving myself in UKM does not always mean wasting my spare time; instead I get those four advantageous things. They are satisfying and learning, friends, certificates, and soft skills. Those four things will be difficult to be found elsewhere. (I Putu Arik Budiarsana)

In every new semester, every student should reregister himself/herself in order to confirm that he/she will be active in that new semester. The reregistration is served online through the internet service. The student should be careful in reregistration because the study plan (Kartu Rencana Studi or KRS) which has been determined will be for the studies or courses along that new semester. Thus, in order to be registered well you have to consider the following steps.
The very basic step is visiting the website of Undiksha. This can be done in two different ways. First, if you are accustomed to use the internet service, you can directly refer to the website address of undiksha, www.undiksha.ac.id, by typing that address on the address bar of your browser. However, if you only know a little about the internet, for example you only know Google or Yahoo service; you can type the key words on one of those search engines. You can type “Undiksha”, or “KRS Online Undiksha” and some other modified key words on the search bar provided by Google or Yahoo and they will offer you a millions of founding that refer to your key words. You just need to put your attention to founding on the top because usually the founding placed on the top rank is the most visit founding. By clicking the name of the founding, you will be redirected into the website of Undiksha.
After being redirected into the website of Undiksha, to log in you need to click the “KRS and KHS Online” menu. It is usually located on the left bar of the website (left side of website or computer screen). By clicking that menu, you will be served a new window of registration. You need to enter the correct user ID and your password and you will be correctly logged in.
Planning your study plan (KRS); this is the most important step. How much SKS you will take in that new semester and in where classes you will be are determined by your decision in filling up the KRS. In KRS and KHS window, click “Menyusun KRS” and you will be derived into KRS arrangement window. In KRS arrangement window, you will be served all subjects along the eight semesters, so you need to choose the subjects in the semester you will be. You have to mark the subjects that are allowed and you want to take. Don’t forget to choose in where classes you will take the course. You have to finalize it by clicking the menu “Validasi” or in English it is called “validation”. You have to work carefully because you are only allowed to revise for three times. Never being rash to determine your KRS because it will be for your studies along the semester.
Print out the KRS you have been decided is the following step. After finishing and validating your study plan, you need to print it out in order to have the hard copy of your KRS. To print it out, you just follow the step showed in the window after you validated your KRS. After clicking “Print”, the KRS will begin automatically to be downloaded. The downloaded KRS will be in form of .Pdf. You just need to open the file (by Acrobat Reader) and select “File” then click “Print” to print it out. Make sure that your computer has been connected to a printer so the process of printing it out will run smoothly. In addition, if you want you can save the downloaded KRS in your personal drive (for example flash disk or hard disk) if you want to print it later on or to prevent your KRS from being lost. So, you have the backup data.
After having been printed out, the KRS sheet must be assigned by the student supervisor. You need to copy your KRS in three folds and asking for agreement from your supervisor and also the head of the department. In addition you need to go to “Tata Usaha” to ask for stamping to complete it.
Finally, submit the agreed KRS to Pusat Komputer (Puskom) Undiksha. The Puskom which handle it is usually located in each faculty. So, you do not need to submit it into “Puskom Pusat”.
After following those steps, you’re expected to be register well in the active semester. You are expected not to have problems to follow the following semester. So, you can attend your courses well. (I Putu Arik Budiarsana)

APA ITU BAHAGIA?
Bahagia, ya semua orang di dunia ini mencari dan mengharapkan kebahagiaan dalam hidup kita. Kita berdoa setiap hari untuk memperoleh kebahagiaan itu. Kita bekerja setiap hari juga untuk memperoleh kebahagiaan. Apa sebenarnya arti kata yang sering didamba semua insan hidup di dunia ini? Setiap orang punya versi mereka sendiri tentang apa itu bahagia. Sebagian besar asumsi orang tentang kebahagiaan itu pasti dihubungkan dengan uang dan harta benda. Entah itu disadari dan diakui atau tidak, saya yakin pasti di dalam lubuk hatinya ada perihal menjurus ke pernyataan tersebut.
Rasional saya menulis tulisan ini bercermin dari kenyataan yang sangat miris yang saya lihat yang pada kenyataannya sangat bertentangan. Kenyataan pertama tentang sebuah keluarga yang tidak bias dibilang berkecukupan. Hidupnya dililit hutang, makan walau setiap hari bisa 3 x sehari tapi tak setiap hari bisa enak, beranggotakan 7 orang. Mereka semua sehat bisa bekerja dengan mengejar nafkah di jalan. Mereka selalu mengeluh tidak bahagia karena jauh dari rejeki. Mereka selalau mengeluh tidak pernah hidup bahagia karena selalu bekerja tapi tidak bisa kaya. Kenyataan kedua adalah tentang keluarga yang sangat kaya. Hidup bertetanggaan dengan keluarga pertama. Rejeki sangat mudah mereka dapat. Bahkan, hanya tinggal di rumah saja penghasilan mereka bisa mencapai 6 X lipat penghasilan tetangganya (keluarga pertama red.). sayangnya, sang kepala keluarga sering sakit-sakitan. Sudah lebih 5 tahun menderita sakit paru-paru yang takkunjung sembuh meskipun sudah berobat sampai ke pulau seberang (Jawa, red.). Mereka selalu mengeluh bahwa dalam 5 tahun belakangan ini mereka tak pernah hidup bahagia. Mereka selalu mengecam tuhan akan sakit yang dideritanya.
Jika seperti itu, Apa itu bahagia? Bisakah disimpulkan bahwa bahagia di patok dengan uang? Bisa dipatok dengan kesehatan?
Baik, mari amati kenyataan yang lainnya. Seorang anak dari keluarga yang sangat kaya yang sayangnya keluarganya dilanda broken home dikabarkan tertangkap basah aparat berwajib sedang pesta narkoba di sebuah hotel bersama teman-teman sekampusnya. Saat ditanya di kantor polisi, dia mengaku sedang tidak bahagia karena tidak mendapat perhatian dari kedua orang tuanya. Untuk membahagiakan dirinya, dia menghabiskan waktunya untuk menikmati narkoba dan obat-obat terlarang lainnya bersama teman-teman senasibnya.
Banyak kenyataan yang lainnya dapat ditemukan dengan mudah. Lalu kembali ke pertanyaan sebelumnya, apakah kebahagiaan itu adalah saat sehat? Saat ada uang?, saat diperhatikan orang yang kita sayangi? Atau saat-saat yang lainya? Saat apa menurut teman-teman? Apa saat semua yang kita inginkan terpenuhi? Satu hal yang perlu diingat dari pepatah tua adalah tidak ada manusia yang sempurna. Jadi mungkin saja, saat kita punya banyak uang , keluarga kita mengalami broken heart yang menimbulkan ketidakondusifan pertumbuhan buah hati. Saat kita sehat, mungkin kita tidak punya uang.
Pertanyaannya sekarang, jika salah satu faktor yang membuat bahagia tidak terpenuhi, apakah orang masih bisa hidup bahagia?

Student Profile: Luh Murniasih
PKM is started from writing, writing, and writing, then start to write right now!
While commonly university students are likely to involve their selves in a demonstration, Luh Murniasih prefers to pour her creativity through PKM (program Kreativitas Mahasiswa). A lot of achievements in PKM have been gained. Many proposals of PKM had been made and some of those have passed the national selection, which done by Dikti (Direktorat Pendidikan Tinggi), and some of those had been presented in PIMNAS (Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional). Recently, she and her team proposed two different proposals and both are donated by Dikti.
Murni, a nick name of Luh Murniasih, was born in Buleleng, 5 September 1989. Being born in a place which needs to be developed, Murni grew with a creative and innovative thought. After being graduated from SD N 1 Tahun in 2011, she continued her junior high school in SMP N 3 Kubutambahan. Afterwards, she left her home to continue her high school in SMA N 1 Singaraja. Now, she is in Chemistry Department of Education, Undiksha. She is 8th semester.
She likes writing very much. She likes writing since she was at senior high school. She likes to use her spare time to write. However, at that time she never wrote a work of erudition (Karya Ilmiah). After being a student of faculty of Math and Science, she learned to write such kind of writing. Being combined with her creative and innovative thought, her hobby is being useful by being poured in PKM. She knew PKM when she was at the second semester of her study. After some failures, she and her team surprisingly became the finalists of the best four in presenting KKTM (Kompetisi Karya Tulis Mahasiswa) Perguruan Tinggi Tk. Nasional Wilayah Indonesia Timur 2008 in Bogor, after her proposal passed the selection. KKTM is a kind of PKM at that time when the system was different, the selection and evaluation were separated into three different areas and Indonesia belonged to Wilayah Indonesia Timur. Afterwards, a lot of achievements in PKM are gained along her study in Undiksha.
According to her, her successful is influenced by her lovely lecturer, Mr. Sudiana and also by her faculty. She said that Mr. Sudiana is very great lecturer. He used to tutor her when she was writing the proposal of PKM. In addition, Murni also said that her faculty (FMIPA) influenced her very much. In her faculty, she got something that she didn’t get in other faculties. She can sharpen her critical thinking and her logical reasoning.
There are actually no special tips she uses in writing the proposal of PKM. She explained that the tip for writing PKM is just writing, writing, and writing, then start to write right now! She wishes that every student will like to write PKM since it is very useful and profitable for the students themselves. Besides, we can introduce Undiksha in national level.
Her achievements give her a very great favor. She was selected as the leader of POKJA MIPA (Kelompok Kerja MIPA), an organization or program which facilitates students of MIPA to work together developing their creativity especially for PKM. Moreover, she is often asked to give a tutorial in some faculties and departments in Undiksha.

UKM Penelitian, Tepatkah?

Tri Dharma perguruan tinggi menyebutkan tiga fungsi universitas di Indonesia. Salah satu dari tiga dharma tersebut adalah dharma penelitian. Penelitian secara sederhana dapat diartikan sebagai sebuah kerangka kerja yang digunakan untuk menemukan, mencari, dan mengeksplorasi suatu fenomena secara ilmiah. Objek penelitian haruslah merupakan objek yang menarik dan pantas diteliti.
Penelitian, dalam rangka penyusunan skripsi (mahasiswa program starta 1) dan penyusunan TA (mahasiswa program diploma II dan III), juga merupakan sebuah tuntutan bagi mahasiswa untuk menyelesaikan studinya di universitas. Hal tersebut juga berlaku di Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha. Seperti yang termuat di dalam Buku Pedoman Studi Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha Tahun 2009, mahasiswa wajib membuat skripsi (program S1) dan TA (program D3) dalam rangka mengakhiri studi di Undiksha. Sebagai akibatnya mau tak mau, seluruh mahasiswa Undiksha wajib mengetahui prosedur penelitian yang baik dan benar dan nanti wajib melakukan penelitian.
Seluruh mahasiswa mungkin saja bisa meneliti. Akan tetapi, tak semua mahasiswa bisa meneliti sesuai dengan metodologi penelitian. Bahkan, bagi mahasiswa yang sudah memiliki pengalaman banyak sekalipun masih sering mengalami kesulitan dan melakukan kesalahan dalam meneliti. Bisa dibayangkan, kesulitan dan kesalahan yang ditemui mahasiswa dalam meneliti, baik dalam rangka penyusunan skripsi nantinya, atapun dalam rangka mengikuti Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa Penelitian (PKM-P). Hal itu akan berpengaruh terhadap hasil skripsi yang disusun atau hasil PKM-P yang diikuti.
Berdasarkan permasalahan di atas, kita mengetahui bahwa untuk bisa meneliti sesuai dengan metodologi penelitian dengan hasil yang diharapkan, seorang peneliti (mahasiswa) harus memiliki pengalaman. Pengalaman-pengalaman meneliti bisa didapat melalui ‘workshop-workshop’, seminar tentang penelitian, mengikuti PKM, dan sebagainya. Akan tetapi, itu dirasa kurang mampu memberi pengalaman bagi mahasiswa. Hal itu dikarenakan kegiatan-kegiatan itu hanya diadakan musiman. Bahkan workshop atau seminar tentang penelitian sangat jarang diadakan di Singaraja.
Di hampir pada semua jurusan telah menawarkan mata kuliah ‘penelitian’ atau yang berkaitan dengan penulisan karya ilmiah, walau berbeda sebutan tiap jurusan. Akan tetapi, melihat kondisi diatas rasanya kehadiran sebuah ‘wadah’ mahasiswa mencari pengalaman meneliti sangat diperlukan. Wadah yang perlu dibentuk adalah Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa (UKM) ‘penelitian’ atau apapun namanya. Memang pembentukan sebuah UKM baru di Undiksha tidaklah mudah. Namun, hal ini perlu mendapat perhatian dari berbagai pihak.
Sebuah UKM yang berorientasi pada pembelajaran meneliti sangat tepat untuk mahasiswa belajar meneliti dan mulai berani melakukannya. Dibandingkan dengan belajar meneliti yang ditetapkan di perkuliahan, belajar meneliti di UKM penelitian akan lebih baik. Mahasiswa tidak akan dibebani dengan tuntutan nilai seperti yang dituntut di perkuliahan yang sebenarnya. Mahasiswa akan lebih berani mencoba, Karena kesalahan (kesalahan yang wajar) mereka tidak akan berkontribusi pada Indeks Prestasi (IP).
Selain itu, UKM penelitian juga bisa menyiapkan mahasiswa untuk siap mengikuti kuliah ‘penelitian’ yang diprogramkan di SKS nanti. Misalnya, seorang mahasiswa semester 2 yang iktu di UKM penelitian, suatu saat nanti di semester berikutnya, dia kan lebih siap dan percaya diri mengikuti kuliah ‘penelitian’.
Bekerja sama dengan unit terkait di Undiksha khususnya Lembaga Penelitian (Lemlit), pembentukan UKM Penelitian akan menjadi sebuah langkah baru dalam dunia akademik mahasiswa. Dengan pembina yang mungkin ditunjuk dari Lemlit dan dengan kepengurusan UKM yang dibentuk, UKM penelitian dapat menyusun program-program yang berorientasi meningkatkan kebiasaan belajar meneliti di lingkungan mahasiswa seperti mengadakan seminar ataupun workshop-workshop penelitian dengan mengundang pembicara-pembicara terkemuka di Undiksha, di Singaraja, di Bali maupun di tingkat nasional.
Akan tetapi, pembentukan sebuah UKM penelitian akan tidak berguna tanpa apresiasi mahasiswa itu sendiri untuk meneliti. Jadi jika apresiasi yang diberikan mahasiwa besar, maka langkah pembentukan UKM penelitian adalah langkah yang tepat.
